Driftwood Crown

The driftwood crown made from local felted wool and twigs, sea bleached and rounded, hand sewn into the felt base. Each twig is a treasure, an object of beauty in its own right, sculpted by the sea. The twigs are collected over a period of three months on journeys back from school with my children. A crown is symbolic of monarchy, of power, an adornment that allows the wearer to assume a role; here made of natural objects it says something else, of craft, of what we treasure. I treasure beach-combing with my children on the way home from school.
